Obama: Asia Pacific Important to U.S.

Canberra - the President of the United States (U.S.), Barack Obama has announced plans placement of thousands of U.S. Marines in Australia. It said Obama, the U.S. military will increase its role in the Asia-Pacific region despite the presence of U.S. budget cuts.

Obama confirmed the U.S. "being here" to be a Pacific power that will help shape the future of the Asia-Pacific region.

"Along with the end of our wars today, sata has ordered my national security team to make the presence and mission in the Asia Pacific region as a top priority," Obama said in a speech in Australia as reported by AFP news agency on Thursday (17.11.2011 ).

"As a result of budget reductions in U.S. defense spending will not, I repeat, will not sacrifice the Asia Pacific," said Obama.

It said Obama, an increased focus on the Asia Pacific region is important for the future of the U.S. economy. "As the fastest growing regions in the world - and host to more than half of the global economy - Asia Pacific is important to achieve my highest priorities: creating jobs and opportunities for the American people," said Obama.

Under the agreement the U.S. and Australian governments announced Obama and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard yesterday, about 200-250 U.S. Marines will begin to be placed in Darwin, Australia in mid 2012. Later, until the year 2016, total 2500 U.S. Marines will be stationed there.
