Jusuf Kalla says govt naive for questioning New7wonders
Komodo Island envoy Jusuf Kalla said that the government was naive to question the credibility of Switzerland-based New7wonders foundation after merely looking at its office.
The government appointed a representative to visit the foundation’s office and found that it is located in a private museum that is not open every day.
“Switzerland is not like a village. You don’t have to go to the neighborhood or community unit chief when looking for an address. This is the digital era; we can just open a website and it is all clearly there,” he said.
Kalla explained that the foundation handled international affairs and so it was likely that the people in charge of it were busy traveling abroad and therefore would not need a huge office.
“So talking about the office is not so important. Anyway, an office should not be judged by its size,” he said.
Kalla added that prior to his appointment as envoy for Komodo Island, he had checked the legitimacy of the New7wonders foundation through the internet and discovered that heads of state were involved in the competition.
“There are Aquino, Obama and several others. It is only our officials who are questioning it. The truth is, they (government) are just not interested. They are just envious,” he said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
